MENTOR Oregon Partner Honored with Sustainability Award
12/11/2013
The Innovation in Sustainability Awards were held at the Governor Hotel in Portland on November 14, and highlighted the most brilliant and innovative approaches to organizational sustainability in Oregon for 2013.
Among the honorees was Providence Health & Services (PH&S), which partners with MENTOR Oregon’s employment services at their recycling center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Providence Health & Services was recognized for the Waste category. Now in its fifth year, the awards are presented by the Portland Business Journal and honor breakthrough ideas and technologies across seven primary focus areas: energy, equity, food, natural environment, transportation, waste and water.
Nomination and judging for the awards were supported by Sustainability at Work, a program sponsored by the City of Portland, along with Metro, the Energy Trust of Oregon and Pacific Power.
MENTOR Oregon currently supports eight individuals employed by PH&S as part of an enclave handling hospital recycling. Individuals work closely with job coaches for training and support in developing their skills, allowing them to live their life to the fullest and contribute in their community. PH&S operates its own recycling center that serves eight hospitals statewide.
MENTOR Oregon’s partnership with PH&S is a win-win, making a difference in the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, while meeting the hospital’s strategic recycling goals. Client productivity and supports provided by MENTOR Oregon are consistent and reliable. Our commitment in supporting environmentally responsible operations has been key to our success. Together, staff and clients deliver insight to support cost containment and improve the process, while reducing the environmental footprint of Providence Health & Services.
