For many adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, living independently can be one of life’s biggest goals. Like many of us—who have our own networks of support—these individuals may need a helping hand to achieve success. MENTOR Oregon’s Supported Living program offers assistance with independent living and provides opportunities to help people shape the direction of their lives.
We assist adults—who live in their own home—with making everyday decisions, such as what to cook for dinner or how to manage money. We encourage them to do as much for themselves as possible, with the peace of mind that our staff is there to support them whenever the need arises.
Our Supported Living program builds upon each person’s unique strengths and helps them become increasingly independent. We offer training and support in areas that may include:
- Managing money
- Getting involved in the community
- Medical & nutritional support
- Scheduling appointments
Services Promoting Choice
Life is full of important decisions—at least it should be. The ability to choose our friends, where we live, and what we like to do for fun is what makes our lives unique. With our Supported Living program, we strive to help individuals succeed in an environment that they create. We tailor our services to meet the needs and interests of each person and focus on helping them thrive where they choose to live.
In addition to personal growth at home, we want individuals to be comfortable in the community. We support them in making new friends, spending time with family members, or participating in community events. Our program also provides opportunities to participate in group outings and other social events in the community. This regularly provides new experiences, such as:
- Dance classes
- Fishing trips
- Volunteer opportunities
Ongoing Support for Independent Living
We understand that living independently can be challenging. Individuals in our Supported Living program may have previously lived in residential homes or other less-independent settings. Our caring staff is committed to helping each person become comfortable in their home—including those who may have complex medical needs. Our certified professionals provide ongoing coaching and encouragement to help individuals reach new milestones and become increasingly self-sufficient.
